Also taking into consideration vibe is linked very much to the feeling people have about a certain person or atmosphere, the masthead ‘Vibe’ could relate to the fact that people tend to say that you don’t just listen to music but you feel it too. In the music industry the word ‘Vibe’ means to ‘feel the music and have an insight to it’ which suggests that the magazine knows what they’re talking about when it comes to the subject of music. The sans serif font connotes a more modern type of magazine. The masthead is the same font type and general size used by Vibe on all of their magazine covers although the colour scheme is often changed to suit the photograph on the cover. The font used is a sans serif font, and after each letter there is a space of about 1cm separating the letters. Masthead: Vibe’s masthead is very basic – just white. A bar code is visible in the bottom right of the magazine. The photographed men’s name is in white with nothing beneath each cover line to separate them but a space. Behind the two men is the Vibe masthead, and in front of them are eight separate cover-lines in white. The background of the photograph is a quite dark orangey colour which eventually fades into black the further it gets from the middle of the magazine, and the photograph covers the whole of the magazine cover. They are both standing up with one of the men resting his arm on the back of the other. It is a medium shot showing their head, arms and waist. Denotation: The magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of two men looking directly at the camera.
